Bük is situated at the foot of the Alps in North West Hungary with the population of more than 3000. Bük is well-known in Hungary and abroad for its world-famous spa. It is popular amongst national and international guests and its visitors' number increasing year by year.
Hotel Caramell is situated at the foot of the Alps in a tranquil village environment only about 600m from the world famous spa. Bath Bük is 25 km from Szombathely 22 km from Sárvár and 47 km from Sopron. It has been a settlement since the bronze-age and got its present form by the integration of three villages in 1902.
The local government, the civil organisations and the inhabitants of Bük do their best to provide their guests with the proper surroundings for their holiday. In 1998 the village got first place in the national "Virágos Magyarországért" ("For the Flowery Hungary") competition.
Bük and its surroundings give a lot of opportunities to its guests for recreation: various fishing-lakes and forests wait for anglers and horse-riding lovers. Today the Bük Spa is one of the Hungarian biggest baths; its name is well-known in Europe. From the 1900s oil-searching drillings were made around Bük, and medicinal water was found. This discovery turned the village's life upside-down, but it was the result of the world-fame.
At the beginning only the inhabitants could enjoy the healing effect of the bathing, but at the beginning of 1960's the first medicinal water bath was built, but nowadays it is the second biggest medical and thermal bath in Hungary.
Bük Spa waits for its guests all year with its 13-hectare park, 11 open-air, 11 indoor and 4 semi-covered pools and a 50 x 20 meters swimming pool. The Bük thermal water is perfect not only for rheumatic problems as a water treatment, but it is proper for digestive problems as a water-drinking cure. In 2002 the spa's building was renewed with state support, the services were widened, so the spa is absolutely fulfils the 21st century's requirements.
The Bük medicinal water comes from 1282 meters deep with 55 oC temperature, and belongs to the alkaline bicarbonate medicinal water group with high fluoride, iodide and iron content. Indications: calcification (spondylosis), cartilage degradation (arthritis), bone loss (osteoporosis), vertebral disk deformation (discopatia), lumbago, Bechterew-disease, chronic arthritis, gout, soft tissue rheumatism, rehabilitation after orthopaedic surgery or nerve surgery, accident after-care, chronic gynaecological and urological inflammations, chronic gastritis, ulcer, digestive problems.
Contra-indications: serious heart and vascular conditions, Thrombosis, malignant tumour, tuberculosis, acute inflammation, pregnancy.
There is a bicycle path between Bük and Bath Bük and it goes to the austrian border. If you go straight to the border you can reach border crossing station between Zsira and Lutzmannsburg. Distance between Bük and Zsira is 14 km.
